We eagerly waited in the car park of the Dashwood Arms for our hare of the night, but Mark was nowhere to be seen! Then the announcement was made that Mark couldn't make tonight's hash. As luck would have it Gerry had very kindly stepped up to the challenge of setting it.
(Ed's aside: commiserations to Mark, who spent the evening at the doctor’s before being told that he needed an MRI of his knee).
Gerry gave us the run down (Ed’s aside: love the pun Tracey) of how far the long/short runs were to be, then told us that if we came across our initial by an object we had to go over the said object.
We set of out of the car park and turned to the right with, Helen and Jo bringing up the rear. (Ed’s aside perhaps they should see a doctor about that). We met our first hill up through the village then went left and right before ascending to the top! Crossing over the road we came across an H in front of some jumping things (horses don't know the proper name) - which Helen promptly jumped over!
From here we carried on over Wheeler End common then on to Great Woods where the bluebells were stunning. You just can't beat them! The faster runners had the extra treat of an on-back at the end of them – so they were lucky enough to run through the bluebells three whole times. Then straight on up another hill, which was quickly followed by yet another hill, on which Helen did a stunning moose on her favourite type of on-back (down hill).
Meanwhile, according to a reliable source who will remain nameless, (but for the sake of argument we could call Roger), Jo spent much of the evening discussing the elastic in her knickers, complete with graphic anatomical details of exactly where they rubbed when they were too tight. This led to some speculation that she might be awarded a hash name of Nicholas, (Ed's aside: I overheard some talk about commandos, but being young and innocent I didn't understand it.)
The longs and shorts then split, with the shorties going straight on up Hellbottom Hill.
The Longs then made their way (safely for a change) along one of the area’s finest moosing paths and on to Wycombe Wanders football ground (well done the Blues for moving up), before starting to make the way back to West Wycombe where there were some lovely views of the Dashwood House, yes they were stunning views.
So onwards toward home we went and back to the pub where we were greeted with chips and cheesy chips!
Well done to although those who took part in the Marlow 5
Happy birthday to Abi and Kevin and thank you for the cakes!
Thanks Gerry for great run x
